I am a handweaver based in Formby, on the NW coast of England. My work is inspired by the history and landscape of my hometown, celebrating its Viking heritage, peaceful pinewoods and sweeping sand dunes.
My designs have been created on a 16 shaft table loom and a restored 100 year old countermarche loom, and often feature double weave. I love to explore how the loom and the mixing of yarns can create beautiful shades, reflecting the natural environment. Wool is the perfect yarn to achieve this (I use non-mulesed merino lambswool) along with its environmentally friendly properties, producing long lasting and unique fabric.
Mather Makes also includes the work of my son, qualified in Level 3 joinery and autistic; where wood and textiles come together to craft individual pieces.
I completed the 2 year Diploma in Handweaving at the Handweavers Studio in 2024.
